Sketches of the Month
November
November was an interesting month. I launched Toilet Paper Trash on Kickstarter. as of this current momen,t we are almost at 70% funded. i hope to get to 100% by the deadline, December 20th. I improved my caricature art, and I have started to get a lot of gigs with my company. Family stuff has settled down for me, and we are finding our new normal. My new studio buddy Hayden basically never cries (2 months old), so these late nights are going smooth. Check out the dope art down below, and if you're reading this before December 20th, go back the Kickstarter! Check at the end of the art, I got something special for you.
I really love the Marvel Rivals design of Rocket Raccoon, so I drew a fan art of him flying through the air on a skateboard.
Adam, my emotional trauma baby. He is going to feel so much during the 10-issue run of Toilet Paper Trash. I'm so excited to see how he handles the surprises tossed his way.
my quick sketch for Brooding Adam. I love both of them equally.
Continuing with the toilet paper trash development, in issue 3 Luca will be exploring the lower city, he will see firsthand the impact of the hatred between humans and animal human hybrids.
This is a fun little one shot of 402 from Toilet Paper Trash showing his recipe for baking cookies. It explains why nobody eats his cookies. Also, I pitched this to Columbus Scribbler, I'm supposed to find out if it will get published by early January. If it does get published that will be a big win for Toilet Paper Trash.
you may have noticed that I have started experimenting with ink wash. I'm developing new techniques to help my drawings improve. I've been studying Matteo Scalera a lot I'm excited for his new comic The Fourth Father. I also just picked up The Flash Unwrapped witch removes the color from the original run and reveals the amazing ink wash technique of Francis Manapul. These two washers (I called people who use hatching for form value hatchers, and people who use wash, washers, those whose use both like Kim Jung Gi are hybrids.) are my case studies for improving this technique.
I was doodling in the studio one day and Lucas my son started throwing out ideas, well this is what came out. I'm surprised we didn't have any monsters in it, he absolutely loves anything monster related.
I sketched this during my lunch break at canes. It's how I feel about my job. When I tell people that I work at canes it's a great conversation starter, and people love it, but man I am growing tired of working there.
I think this would be a good drawing to show students or aspiring artist. it has the thumbnails and a final sketch all in the same image. I didn't post this on social media largely because I wasn't pleased with the dragon, however I do think it is an interesting concept. I feel like this guy could be a boss for the video game Another Crabs Treasure. I want to play that game so bad.
thought this design was pretty cool. Not sure in which of my IP's I would use him, he doesn't fit TpT, maybe he could show up in Dadman & Lukeboy.
An orc wizard with a stitched together shirt to cover his monstrous appendages. I love how I did the face one this one. He doesn't fit in any my IP's either, but it was an interesting drawing.
Ah, this dude right here, I love it! the head design resembles my drawing The Ripper, but with the vibe of this dude, I'm going to make him a relative of 402. so that means we will meet this guy eventually in TpT.
One of my first ink wash practices. it got very muddy on the face, so I'm keeping this here as a reminder to make my washes simple.
A study from Matteo Scalera's Fourth Father. If you subscribe to his newsletter, you can get issue 0 for free, so freaking smart, I'm going to have to do something similar. I might do a small 8–16-page issue that tells the backstory of TpT and include it as a free thing for my newsletter.
This drawing overall is not the best, but why I'm bringing it here is it feels very similar to Mike Mignola, which I think is awesome.
A shark for Luke. He loves anything with sharp teeth.
This was a study from an illustration in the Hearthstone Art Book, the first one. I was experimenting with using alcohol markers over the ink wash. it works fairly well, just don't make the ink wash value to dark!
Special Thing just for you!
For backers of Toilet Paper Trash Issue 1, send me the word “chicken” in an email, and I will turn your name into a graffiti tag for a background scene of the Upcoming issues. Graffiti is a big part of toilet paper trash. It has so many easter eggs hidden in there, and I promote local graffiti artists by using their name, for example, Konqr and Awak are two prominent graffiti writers in my city. I put my version of their tags in my comic. I love their work. So if you want to be apart of the ongoing easter eggs, send me the word “chicken” in an email, or a dm, howeaver you choose to get in contact with me.
You must be a backer of the Kickstarter!
