Sketches of the Month
September & October
Each month, I update this page to showcase some of my favorite sketches of the month. This is also like a blog of sorts, so come back each month to see whatās going on in my life and career.
Sketches are from September and October. I had my second child, so I wasnāt able to update this for the past couple of months. But I sketched quite a bit, actually, so here comes a lot of cool stuff.
So, I had my second child in September. Her name is Hayden; we accidentally had her at home! My wife and Hayden are all good, and damn my wife is a badass, she pushed out our baby in four pushes with no drugs!! This ink sketch was made sometime after Hayden was born.
Just a few days after Hayden was born, my grandpa, age 87, fell down the stairs. We found him the next day... He is alive and fighting, but man his body has given up on him, his mind is disappearing as well, that's what inspired this sketch. Dementia is a bitch!
Ah Toilet Paper Trash, my current big project. It's about a boy named Adam and some unlikely friends, not this dude here, who is trying to stop a war between humans and animal human hybrids.
This is Adam Kho from my comic Toilet Paper Trash. He lost his mom at a young age and was raised by a military father who had no clue how to bond with a child. Adam embarks on a journey to stop a war between humans and animal hybrids.
I don't think I will have giant kaiju sized monsters in Toilet Paper Trash, hmmm, maybe a crossover perhaps.
A side project of mine at the moment, The Adventures of Lukeboy and Dadman. My son loves the idea of this so much that he calls himself Lukeboy all the time. We even gave names for mom and sister, Captain Mommy and Wonder Baby. I will definitely do some one shots soon; I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things. Hayden is only a month old, and my grandpa is still in the hospital so things have been really up and down for me as of late.
recently I have started exploring one of my IP's, SICKness. It's so fun drawing zombies. if you have looked at this comic I wouldn't be surprised, nobody bought it when I released it years ago, well I had no idea what I was doing then so it makes sense. But the general story is Az and El are graffiti writers, and they are surviving the apocalypse. They are tagging their way through the east coast. I will definitely continue this project, just not at the moment. Toilet Paper Trash is my main focus at the moment.
This is El from SICKness, she's bad ass aint she.
This is AZ, doing a cool throwie will a small group of zombies try to get him. this was actually inspired from a video I watched years ago on YouTube. it documented a guy rappelling on a bridge while he did this huge throwie. it was awe inspiring and I'm so happy it popped in my mind for this sketch.
Man, I really like Kim Jung Gi when I sketched this. I went straight in with the brush pen, I started on the pool and the main killer starfish and branched my way out. I really got inside this drawing and things started clicking.
Something also clicked with this sketch. Some of you may know that I am a caricature artist for Awesome Family Entertainment. Well since I do that job, I practice a lot of caricatures. but my style is not the stereotypical caricature artist, its more comic and cartoon infused, so I tried to combine all the different methods and produced this ink sketch. I'm super stoked with it y'all.
These fan arts of hunger games were mainly done so that I could practice with these acrylic brush pens that I got. I did a bunch of them, these two were my favorite.
Silksong baby!! I've been trying to do more fan art recently. it's helped on testing how i translate a character into my own style. this one was fun, fairly simple.
I wanted to study texture, and a Pangolin is a perfect study. I really want to meet one in real life.
SO, this is technically a master study of an ink drawing from William Stout, he's one of my fav artists. He had no color on his artwork so I made up my own.
I really captured the motion on this one, I was super happy about it. My son said it was gyarados.
I tried to make an evil pope design, and I tried to really stretch the design and make it feel dynamic.
Metroid Prime was a game that I played as a kid, back on the game boy. I gave up on it really quickly because damn that game was hard. I've always loved Samus design!
This is Deg, he's the main character in my friend fletcher griffin's new comic book Outlaw Mega Drift. I did a quick fan art after Fletch let me review his pencils for the comic.
I slapped some color on the ink sketch. I did have to make a few tweaks to the design, I'm not sure which one I like better.
Thought this guy was cute!
This is how I have felt most days. Maybe I make this into a shirt with the text, duck today.
Some guy on YouTube said this was his favorite inktober drawing this year, that made me really happy.
Nuff said. Thanks yall for looking through this month's sketchbook.
